Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, talked to EW and reflected on the events of episode 6 (Beyond the Wall) of season 7 where one of her dragons, Viserion, was killed by the Night King and later turned into a wight:

“It’s a heartbreak. Not only losing it but having that being given to the other side. My dragon could not have died for nothing, so this is now so important. For the first time, you’re starting to see her defenses broken. The biggest question this season for Dany is what side of the coin she’s on. The unequivocal nature in choosing to be this aggressive is something you haven’t seen before. She’s practiced patience and has this savior-like quality, but now it’s game on.”

Clarke also found it amusing that the dragon named after her evil brother Viserys was the one to become the Night King’s new ride. She joked:

“Of course it’s the rotten egg, of course you’d turn,”

  1. In the books, there is a dragon horn that can change the loyalty of a dragon. Perhaps this might be introduced next season.
