Ratings for this season of Game of Thrones has been so outstanding that each episode of season 7 has received better ratings than the highest-rated episode of previous seasons. And now with episode 4 (The Spoils of War), the show has outdone itself. The action-packed last episode of Game of Thrones was watched live by 10.167 million people, making it the show’s highest-rated episode ever, beating the record set by Dragonstone (season 7 premiere), which was watched by 10.1 million viewers.
This is good news for HBO as the episode was leaked ahead of time but clearly it didn’t have much impact on ratings. The network is also recovering from a huge cyberattack where hackers have claimed to have stolen about 1.5 terabytes of data and are threatening to release confidential information, if HBO doesn’t meet their demands. Knowing that ratings will remain strong, irrespective of the leaks, will hopefully give the network some bargaining power.
