Ed Sheeran’s cameo during Game of Thrones season 7 premiere attracted a lot of criticism from many fans but episode director Jeremy Podeswa has defended Sheeran’s performance. Speaking to The Daily Beast, Podeswa expressed surprise that people made so much fuss about a small cameo:

“It is a funny thing because I really, genuinely believe that if you didn’t know who he was, you would have just thought he was one of the gang, effortlessly. And for me, I myself don’t bring a lot of baggage to who he is, or anybody on the show. And the truth is, everybody on the show is famous now. (Laughs.) So it’s like, it doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s about, are they appropriate for the role? Are they doing a good job? And it was yes, yes, yes to all those questions with him so, I don’t know. For me, I’m actually a bit surprised that people have made that much fuss about it. Because he… I don’t know. To me, he does seem quite organic, in his own way, to the show.”

  1. Ed did fine, haters just gonna hate… Sad ole world when people get their knickers in s twist over something like this when so much REAL bad stuff goes on in the world.

  2. It’s true. I didn’t know who he was and the episode flowed seamlessly to me. It’s a tv show. It’s entertainment. Just sit back and enjoy it.

  3. I am a living example to this. I was completly oblivius to the fact that this cameo happened when I watched the episode.

All the GOT relatet groups and everything went crazy and I was like “who the hell is he?” So I googled him and was like “Oh… So he’s a singer…ok.” (I’ve only seen his vide for “Shape of you” and the song I happened to find when I googled him was not that) Later when I told one of my friends that I still have basically no idea who this guy is everyone is so crazy about he said “have you heard “Shape of you”?” And THAT’s when I realized that I actually do know about him.

I think that I didn’t notice anything in particular about his acting as a casual viewer, proves that there wasn’t anything wrong with it to say the least…

  4. its because hes a self absorbed goof who acts entitled and has to be the focal point of every camera shot hes in. Give a role to someone more humble maybe, not some goof who already has his life set.

    1. Mate you obviously know nothing about Ed he’s the complete opposite of what you just said about him. He’s a complete and utter gentleman who would prefer to be at the pub with his boys than flying around the world spending his millions. Do some research before you let such shite dribble out from your uncultured swine mouth.

  5. They definitely gave him more camera time than a rando cameo would typically get, though. Sigur Ros got about 4 seconds total. They put the camera on Ed for 4 seconds in a single shot, lol. That said, I thought he did a good job.

  6. It seemed forced. I have no idea how this guy sounds, I assume he’s a singer. Any random guy could have done that scene. Who’s next? Justin Bieber? A waste of screen time, it added nothing to the story line except to annoy. I don’t care that he did ‘fine’. Devoting so much time to a bland guy of limited interest is cheap. Don’t harangue me with ‘you’re a hater! You’re jealous!’, to any of the usual, consider it already said, and it has been.
