We earlier reported that Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn from Harry Potter) has been cast in Game of Thrones season 7. And now we have more information on the role he is possibly playing. Watchers on the Wall has learnt that Archmaester Ebrose will be seen in the upcoming season of the hit HBO fantasy show.
** Possible spoilers & speculation ahead **
There’s not much information about Ebrose in the books and he is mostly referenced because of his healing abilities and unique appearance (his silver ring, mask & rod). He is also described as a man with ‘soft voice and gentle hands’ in A Feast for Crows and Qyburn compares his own healing powers to that of Ebrose, claiming that he was ‘as skilled a healer as Ebrose, but aspired to surpass him.’ [Hence the Frankenstein experiments on The Mountain]
Fans are hoping to see many notable archmaesters like Walgrave & Marwyn the Mage in season 7, now that Sam has made it to the Citadel. But interestingly, the show has chosen to include the lesser known Ebrose. Possibly because he’s a healer and there’s one character currently who badly needs a doctor- Ser Jorah Mormont.
WOTW also feels that the role of Ebrose the healer is perfect for the ‘kindly-faced’ Broadbent, who is expected to play a ‘significant’ part in season 7.
