After giving Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) a really hard time in the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones, Faye Marsay’s character ‘The Waif’ wasn’t anyone’s favorite on the hit HBO fantasy show. And the 29-year old English actress recently told reporters at a press conference about how that on-screen hate translated to abuse on social media:
“I got a lot of shit after Game of Thrones but people were also really nice. I’ve had people trying to figure out who I’m in a relationship with and all that shit… I was a teenager in the ’90s. I didn’t get a mobile phone until I was 15, so for me, this shit scares me as well. I remember the ’90s and nothing was that intrusive.”
“I’ve just come off Facebook three days ago. But I’ll go to check it and be like, ‘f**king hell, I’m not on that anymore’, and thank god I’m not. It’s terrifying, social media, it terrifies me.”
This is not the first time a Game of Thrones actor has complained of online abuse. Brenock O’Connor (Olly) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre) have also admitted to receiving death threats on social media. Lena Headey (Cersei) once revealed that some people think she’s a ‘wicked witch’.
