Kit Harington, famous for his portrayal of Jon Snow in the hit HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, is in talks to star in a 3-episode BBC miniseries about Guy Fawkes, reports Deadline. UK production house Kudos, that also developed hit TV shows like Humans and Broadchurch, is producing the series. If Harington comes on board for Gunpowder (working title), his production company Thriker Films is also expected to produce the series.
The historical drama, set in 1605, will follow a group of provincial English Catholics who planned to bomb the House of Lords in UK Parliament and assassinate King James I in an attempt to restore a Catholic monarch to the crown. Fawkes, a member of the group, was in charge of guarding the explosives but got arrested by the authorities before their plan came to fruition. This epic failure is now celebrated in Britain as Guy Fawkes Night on November 5 every year, with a display of fireworks and burning of Fawkes’ effigy on a bonfire.
Harington has previously stated his desire to produce and write TV shows and is also a direct descendant of Robert Catesby, the leader of the infamous group. He also revealed that he has been working on a screenplay about the Gunpowder Plot but it is not confirmed if his script is being used for the show.
