Game of Thrones filming & casting is well underway and so is the speculation about the possible storylines & new characters in season 7. Harry Potter actor Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn) has already been cast in an unknown role and now Devin Oliver, the co-lead singer for American band I See Stars, shared a cryptic message on Instagram, hinting at a role in the upcoming season of the hit HBO fantasy show: “I may or may not have made an appearance in Game Of Thrones season 7,” the singer wrote.
And the speculation started almost immediately on social media.
Clearly, the fans think he is perfect for the role of Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys’ deceased brother and more importantly, Jon Snow’s real father. And the role of Rhaegar could be tailor-made for Oliver because (a) he is a singer (b) HBO has a history of casting unknown actors for Game of Thrones and (c) he definitely looks the part.
Ser Barristan once told Daenerys that her older brother loved singing and and as one fan pointed out above, it was his singing that brought tears to Lyanna’s eyes during the tourney at Harrenhal. ASOIAF wiki also describes Rhaegar as ‘tall and beautiful, with the silver hair of House Targaryen, worn long’, which matches Oliver’s current look.
As of now nothing is confirmed and Oliver might just be trolling us. Game of Thrones also regularly hires bands/artists to make cameos- Coldplay’s Will Champion, Mastodon, Sigur Rós, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and most recently Of Monsters & Men have all made appearances on the show. So there is a chance that he might be hinting at a similar kind of role. We will let you know as soon as we have more information on this.
