Kit Harington actually went down on one knee and offered a ring, but not to his girlfriend Rose Leslie, but to his co-presenter Andy Samberg. The proposal was part of a gag that the both of them did before announcing the nominations for the Variety Talk Series Category, which was won by John Oliver.
These two first faced off in the HBO Mockumentary 7 Days in Hell. They started the sketch by announcing that they will deliver a few one-liners in the hope of making it to the Highlight Reel of next year’s Emmys.
Samberg began, “Now it’s a party,” before passing it to Harington, who said cheerily, “I came here in a limo!” The one-liners got better from there, peaking when each addressed Bloodline star Kyle Chandler.
“No, I won’t kiss you, Kyle Chandler,” Samberg joked, before Harington countered, “Yes, I will kiss you, Kyle Chandler.”
The final part involved Kit Harington asking the question to Andy Samberg. “There’s something else I want to celebrate tonight with you, Andy,” he said, as he dropped down to one knee and took out a ring box. Samberg gave the reply every girl would if Kit were to ask them out, he said, “What, Kit, what are you doing? Here at the Emmys? I do!”
