It turns out that not only the fans are obsessed with IMDB ratings but even the producers are equally worried about their episodes’ performance on the world’s largest movie & TV database. During an appearance on IMDB Live, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss expressed regret that they are still unable to match 10/10 rating set by Breaking Bad‘s Ozymandias. Currently, four episodes of Game of Thrones are rated 9.9/10 on IMDB – Rains of Castamere (Red Wedding, Season 3), Hardhome (Season 5), Battle of the Bastards and The Winds of Winter (Season 6).
“After that episode (“Battle of the Bastards”) aired, we were talking to Miguel Sapochnik every hour, and all we kept doing ― we didn’t look at the ratings, we didn’t look at any of that stuff ― we were checking the IMDb episode rating. ‘Cause our friend Rian Johnson directed the ‘Ozymandias’ episode of ‘Breaking Bad,’ which was the 10.0, and we’re like, ‘We gotta get f**kin Rian!”
Both Battle of the Bastards and The Winds of Winter had 10/10 ratings early on but eventually settled on 9.9/10, which of course was disappointing for the duo:
“Somebody screwed us. I think Rian opened over 25,000 IMDb accounts and just voted us down.” You’re safe for now, Breaking Bad. (But) I’m really, really happy for Miguel. He did such an incredible job with those two episode.”
Both Benioff and Weiss were of course joking here but it is good to know about this healthy rivalry they have with Breaking Bad, which is always a good news for fans. They can expect more epicness in the final 2 seasons of Game of Thrones, as the showrunners try to outdo themselves in their bid to get that 10/10 on IMDB.
