HBO has arrived in Spain for pre-filming preparations and has started hiring local crews. The network has also sent out notices in the Basque Country towns of Barmeo and Zumaia and to the towns of Trujillo and Malpartida, both of which are in the Caceres province. All 4 locations are confirmed filming spots for Season 7.
According to the reports of Hoy, HBO is expecting more than 500 crew members to be involved in the Caceres’ part of filming. The filming in the this region is likely to begin in November with local work expected to last until December.
In the northern region of Barmeo, filming is only expected to last 2-3 days which seems logical since Game of Thrones opted for only one location, which is San Juan de Gaztelugatxe.
As Modexpor International posted in August, casting in the Basque region will only consist of men. A casting call only for men could mean that they will be part of the Dothraki Horde or The Unsullied or Dornish forces or any other part of Daenerys’ army because neither Barmeo nor Zumaia are suitable locations for a battle.
Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, activity has been noticed in Moneyglass, a location previously used for Winterfell. A user tweeted:
Driving by Moneyglass and seeing Winterfell preparing to construct/maintain the set for S7 is a welcome breath of fresh air.
