The Game of Thrones Fandom got excited a few days back and not without reason. The reason being, Amazon France came up with a placeholder page for sixth book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. The page even came up with a release date: March 9, 2017. So, you can’t really blame them for getting excited.
However, the excitement was short-lived as Martin’s American Publisher Random House came up with a statement to Entertainment Weekly and it read:
“As his publisher, we support George RR Martin as he works hard to finish The Winds of Winter. Any on-sale dates currently listed online for the novel are incorrect. Once we have a publication date for The Winds of Winter, the world will know.”
Entertainment Weekly also notes that another outlet got a statement from HarperCollins, who is Martin’s U.K. Publisher on this issue- “Nothing has been finalized regarding the publication or the date”.
So if you got excited, it’s time to calm down and keep an eye on George R. R. Martin’s “Not a blog” as he himself said that once the book is completed, he will announce it there. As of now, predicting the release date is difficult, but going by Martin’s pace of completing books, early 2017 could be a possibility. Till then, we can only hope that the book releases as soon as possible.
