Game of Thrones Director: ‘I’ve NOT Had One Discussion About Lady Stoneheart’

lady stoneheart artGame of Thrones director Mark Mylod recently told IGN that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss had no discussions with him regarding Lady Stoneheart (resurrected Catelyn Stark):

“I’m not in the writers room, and I can honestly say, hand over heart, that I have not had one discussion about Lady Stoneheart. So I have no idea what’s going on in David and Dan’s minds.”

He adds:

“I’ve genuinely had no discussions about Lady Stoneheart, so I genuinely couldn’t comment about whether that might or might not be in their minds for the future.”

Mylod has been with Game of Thrones for 2 years now and also directed episodes 7 & 8 of season 6 which marked the return of Brotherhood without Banners (Stoneheart leads this group in the books after Beric Dondarrion gives his life for hers). So unless this is another ‘Jon Snow is not coming back’ kind of ruse, Mylod should have probably known if the writers had planned for Lady Stoneheart’s appearance on the show. And after the return of Beric in episode 8, this statement from the director is yet another setback for fans who were hoping to see Catelyn back on the show.

  1. I’m sad to say this but… I’m pretty sure Lady Stoneheart won’t be in the show.

She’s basically been replaced by Sansa and Beric. I mean, in the books she’s revived a couple of days after dying and she was already a bit rotten. In the show it’s already been some years since that happened, so unless they use a CGI skeleton to portray her, I don’t see how LSH would be back.

    1. If Lady Stoneheart does return, it would have to be Osha. That was one of my first thoughts after finishing the episode she was killed. She had her throat slit, and she’s allied with the Starks so it would make sense. Like you say, Cat would have to be too far gone, but Osha is far more recent. What would incline Beric to do such a thing for Osha, I’m not sure though.

  2. With the series starting to come to a close, there probably won’t be any more new major characters introduced. It is time for the writers to start wrapping up story lines and coming to a solid ending for the series. I think I recall reading there are only 2 more seasons left, and those will be shorter (7 episodes instead of 10). There just isn’t enough time to bring Lady Stoneheart in to the story, and honestly, at this point, no reason.
