grrm robert kirkmanThe Walking Dead (TWD) comic book creator Robert Kirkman is backtracking on his criticism of Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. Earlier this week, Kirkman told Rolling Stone that he hasn’t given away TWD’s ending to producers and is ‘disappointed’ with GRRM for revealing GOT’s ending and major plot points to showrunners David Benioff & Dan Weiss:

“I would never do that. That’s the one thing I’m disappointed in George R.R. Martin for doing. He should have just been like, ‘F*ck you. You make it up now, I’ll get to mine when I’m ready.'”

This caused a huge backlash among Game of Thrones fans as Kirkman was accused of being insensitive in his comments. Martin is in his late 60s and fears that he may not live long enough to complete the books. Fans also defended the A Song of Ice and Fire author for trying to protect the world he has created. The show has already diverted a lot from the books but overall direction and major plot twists remain the same.

Kirkman is now walking back from his criticism and recently tweeted:

“‘Disappointed’ is probably the wrong word. I was just joking about how I would have handled that situation. Love GOT, love GRRM. George RR Martin is a far better writer than I’ll ever be. And I’m loving the new season of Game Of Thrones. It’s my favorite show on TV!”
