At the recently concluded Game of Thrones premiere event, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed that president of the United States gets to see advance episodes of Game of Thrones. Speaking to online media personality Veronica Belmont, Weiss was asked if there were any ‘ah-ha … we’ve totally made it’ moments in season 6, to which he replied:
“I think, for both of us, finding out the President wanted advanced copies of the episodes was an ‘ah-ha’ moment. That was a very strange moment.”
And whether they honored this request from the White House:
“Yes. He’s the leader of the free world.”
“When the commander-in-chief says, ‘I want to see advanced episodes,’ what are you gonna do?”
HBO has remained mum on this topic but if Barack Obama is actually getting advance copies, he’s surely the only person in the world, outside of the network to do so. HBO decided not to send any advance copies to press this year after first four episodes of season 5 were leaked online on April 11 2015.
Game of Thrones returns April 24. You can watch the interview below [Skip to 43:40].
