Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie, known for her portrayal as the mighty Brienne of Tarth on the show, has promised a more active storyline for her character in the upcoming season. Brienne spent the later part of season 5 staring at a tower in Winterfell, patiently waiting for a distress call from Sansa and therefore, her story arc didn’t move much last season.
However, in season finale, Sansa manages to escape Winterfell and Brienne comes face to face with Stannis, executing him for Renly’s murder, giving us hope for a better storyline for Christie’s character in season 6. And now, the 37 year old English actress has confirmed that Brienne will indeed ‘burst forth again’ in the upcoming season:
“After season 5, people would come up on the street moaning about why wasn’t Brienne wasn’t doing more. I’d say, ‘I’m terribly sorry, I’m not really in charge of that.’ I got the scripts for season 6 and I thought the story was so fantastic. It’s really exciting to see Brienne burst forth again.”
Christie also revealed that Brienne will encounter characters that she has never met before:
“So many characters for so long had their isolated storylines and as a fan of this show as well, I’ve been wanting and dreaming — ‘I wonder what it would be like to see this person interact with this other person?’ And that’s what starts to unfold.”
