Game of Thrones fans are divided on the question of how long should the show go on. The creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have stated that they want to wind up after 7 seasons whereas HBO executives of course want their best show to run for as long as possible. George R.R. Martin also revealed last year that HBO’s initial plan was to do 10 seasons for Game of Thrones.
Well, it seems that a decision has been made if Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) are to be believed. Speaking to Digital Spy, Cunningham insisted that Game of Thrones will not go on for much longer after Season 6:
“If you ask HBO accountants, they’d like another 50 seasons! But it’s not going to go on much longer.”
“From the start they’ve always known there’s going to be an end. At the beginning we didn’t allow ourselves to get too excited and then it was really successful and we started to believe we could tell this whole story. They always set out knowing where the end was. I think people need to know when to stop. Sometimes people do things to death. If you were to get greedy and do more and more, you would never have the series that we have at the moment. It’s so easy to just get excited and not want to end. It’s been our lives for so long, but I’m really glad that everyone has made the decision to end the story.”
