Hafthor Julius Björnsson, known for his portrayal of Ser Gregor Clegane a.k.a The Mountain from Game of Thrones, has been cast as a villain in Kickboxer: Retaliation– the sequel of upcoming film Kickboxer: Vengeance.
Kickboxer:Vengeance sees the return of Jean-Claude Van Damme to the franchise and also stars Gina Carano, Alain Moussi, Darren Shahlavi and Dave Bautista. The movie is about a martial artist Kurt Sloane (Moussi) who travels to Thailand after his elder brother Eric (Shahlavi) dies fighting the Muay Thai champion Tong Po (Bautista). With the help of Eric’s mentor Master Durand (Van Damme), Kurt plans to avenge his brother’s death by fighting the merciless Tong Po in a final showdown.
Björnsson has been making the headlines since he was cast as The Mountain in the hit HBO fantasy show. He has also broken several weightlifting records recently, including a 1000-year old Viking record, when he carried a 32 feet (9.8 m) long 1433 pounds (650 kg) log for five steps.
“The response we have garnered for the first film, before its release, has been staggering, and we are excited to continue the franchise with the Mountain himself added to the cast,” Kickboxer franchise producer, Rob Hickman told ComingSoon.Net.
The filming of Kickboxer: Retaliation will begin in Thailand in May, after Hafthor competes in 2016 World’s Strongest Man event.
Kickboxer: Vengeance releases later this year and is dedicated to actor Darren Shahlavi who passed away in January 2015. You can watch the official teaser below.
