You can expect an epic face-off between Queen of Thorns and Cersie Lannister in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Veteran actress Diana Rigg, who plays the role of Olenna Tyrell, told Digital Spy that her character has “got a head-on with Cersei coming up and it’s really good.”
Rigg also spoke about her admiration for Peter Dinklage and says “he’s absolutely wonderful” to work with. She then shared her theory as to why HBO prefers British actors in Game of Thrones.
“My theory is that they employ these British actors because, 1) we’re grateful, and 2) we turn up on time and we know our lines. We don’t demand a 60ft Winnebago, or our own chef and physiotherapist and secretary and PA, and largely we’re very uncomplaining.”
The 77-year old actress however admitted that despite her love for the show, it is “hard work”.
“It would be nice if they took into consideration that I am the age that I am. It would be really nice if they didn’t call me at 6am, so I have to get up at 5am. But they do – so I just have to get on with it.”
About her forthcoming role in Sky1/NBC drama You, Me and the Apocalypse, Rigg described her character as the “mum from hell”.
“It’s wonderful – she’s indomitable. Nothing would stop her, utterly selfish. The opportunity to be bizarre – I am bizarre, aren’t I? – is just so wonderful, isn’t it? I didn’t know whether I had to be glamorous, but they decided to make me glamorous. That’s wonderful, because I so rarely get the chance! I’m an old bag for the most part on Game Of Thrones, so it’s so lovely to be glamorous – as glamorous as you can be at my age!”
