Bad news Game of Thrones fans! You may have to wait about 2-4 weeks longer to find out if Jon Snow is coming back or not. HBO recently announced its winter programming lineup and the schedule suggests that the network will possibly delay the premiere of the much awaited Season 6 of the hit fantasy series.
HBO usually premieres Game of Thrones in late March/early April but the 2 hour debut of Martin Scorsese’s period drama Vinyl on February 14 and the return of comedies Girls and Togetherness a week later is likely to push the Season 6 premiere to either late April or early May.
Both Girls and Vinyl will have 10 episodes each whereas Togetherness will have 8 episodes. Considering the new episodes air without any off weeks, the earliest HBO can premiere Game of Thrones Season 6 is April 17 (Season 5 premiered on April 6). This however is unlikely as the network has been pairing GOT with comedies Silicon Valley and Veep for the past 2 years.
HBO likes to keep its spring comedies and drama in sync and uses its premieres to cross promote each other. Considering that Girls will end its 10 episode run on April 24, which will make way for return of Silicon Valley and Veep a week later, it is likely that Game of Thrones Season 6 will premiere on May 1 2016.
