Ed Skrein daarioRemember the old Daario? The super stud English actor Ed Skrein who was introduced as Daenerys’ potential love interest in Season 3.

And then he was replaced by another but different super stud Michiel Huisman. And we fans quietly accepted the change, even though we loved the old Daario. Why? Because we love Game of Thrones and do not question the cast changes it make, even if it means that same actor can play two different characters. (Remember Dean Charles Chapman, our very own Tommen Baratheon who had earlier played the role of late Martyn Lannister?)

Well, if you are wondering why was he recast, Skrein recently spoke to various media outlets about it. Earlier reports indicated that his involvement in The Transporter Refueled was the reason behind the change but he recently told EW, that this was not true.

“That’s what been reported in the press but it was a lot more political than that. My plan was to stay with Game of Thrones for the long haul. That was always my plan. I would have loved to. It was a wonderful experience, but politics led to us parting ways. And from there I just said, ‘Okay, look forward, be positive. Keep calm and carry on.’ That’s my mentality when things go well, so I stay grounded and not get to overwhelmed by the hype, and it’s my mentality when the plans change.”

And he also confirmed the same to TooFab.

“This is a complicated industry and there’s always politics involved. I never really look back. My journey has been unorthodox in many ways. All I do is count my blessings and try to be as present as I can and I’m thankful for every step of this journey.”

He also spoke to Digital Spy last month about leaving Game of Thrones

“In a lot of ways, I would have loved to have carried on and stayed working on that, because it’s a fantastic TV series. It’s an incredible crew that I worked with. I’ve made a lifelong friend in Jacob Anderson, who plays Greyworm. But the most important thing in my life is my family, so each project is important but only to a point.”

Skrein will next be seen in the Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool, not a bad role considering his Game of Thrones days were short lived. He certainly seems to be doing well as an actor and we are glad that we get to see more of him.

    1. I guess if we look at it like a playground or high school/college class, he meant he was not popular among them…maybe because he’s shy/a bit introverted (that’s my case).

    2. Skrein meant Huisman was on Treme, a popular liberal show, canceled, so hbo made hard push to recast even though Skrein superior in every way. Books describe loveable rogue Skrein, not hippy dippy Huisman, who needed endless gym still not buff enough

  1. people loved the old Daario? I fucking hated that guy. ASOIAF Daario was one of my favorite characters. I like the new actor even though the writers can’t seem to nail the character

    1. I never even noticed that that was supposed to be the same guy. Skrein was creepy though. He was too pretty looking – too Disney prince. So thank God they recast.

  2. Translation: He wanted more money, more screen time, or both. The only “politics” there are in making a TV show or a movie is making money. That’s it. Producers will put up with a lot to keep a show in production look at how hard Charlie Sheen had to work to get fired from 2 and a Half Men. Suzanna Sommers worked hard to get under people’s skins enough to fire her, including a full season of her appearing mostly off-screen because her attitude lead towards poor on-screen chemistry with her co-stars. There’s more to the story then him being removed for political reasons, someone disliked him for a very distinct reason. If it was Emilia, that’s a huge issue. Their characters have to have some form of chemistry for his character to have any value. So even if it was just them siding with her, what caused that?

  3. After Treme, HBO worked hard to cast their favorite pet actors from the liberal music drama. Skrein was vastly superior every aspect, looks, tone, voice, muscles, matches books perfectly and also panty-soaking chemistry with Dani. Dani and Huisman no chemistry. That’s what he means political, hbo big-footed him.
